If you’ve written fics for more than one year on AO3, go to your statistics page. Click on the different years at the top to see the categories of statistics for each year.

1. Which year did you write the most words? Do you know why? e.g. you had more time; you were caught up in an exciting new fandom or pairing; you got a rush of ideas etc.
Apparently 2023. That was the year I got into three of my top five fandoms of all time (Dark, From and School Spirits - there was also a new season of Yellowjackets, another of the top five, so I think those would have given me inspiration). Having said that, this was the year I started the epic Dark series which I'm only now coming close to finishing, and AO3 has carried that word count over to 2025 because the most recent chapter of that was posted this year.

2. Which year did you write the least words? Why was this? e.g. lack of time, too busy, no inspiration etc.
Technically it's telling me 2012, but I don't know if I should count that because I only joined AO3 that October so would have the least words for that reason. Out of the full years, it appears to be 2020, with 2021 following. That time period is pretty self explanatory, with a combination of lots of my shows being on ice for the pandemic and therefore not providing as much inspiration, but also I was not in a good headspace during that time due to the lockdowns and not seeing any family for over a year (for anyone who doesn't know this, my extended family is rather scattered across the UK)

3. Which years did you get most hits, kudos, bookmarks and fic subscriptions? Do you know why? (e.g. popular fandoms, lots of words written.) Are there years where you have the same amount of bookmarks and subscriptions?
2015 for hits, 2017 for subscriptions and that has just reminded me of another series I need to finish. Will someone please stop me from starting series? 2023 for bookmarks (blame that one on School Spirits.) 2015 just beats 2023 for kudos.

4. Which years did you get least hits, kudos, bookmarks and fic subscriptions? Do you know why? (e.g. niche fandoms, not many fics written.) Do you have any other conclusions?
2019, looks like quite a few niche fandoms that year.

figure of speech
a word or phrase that intentionally deviates from straightforward language use or literal meaning to produce a rhetorical or intensified effect (emotionally, aesthetically, intellectually, etc.) An oxymoron is one such example.

Oxymoron /ˌɒksɪˈmɔːrɒn/- two words used together that have, or seem to have opposite meanings

living death
oxymoron.

n.
a state of existence that is as bad as being dead; a life of hopeless and unbroken misery.

_____________________________________________________________________________

I stand on the corner of a main road.

I was once a sight to behold in all my art deco beauty, now here I am, abandoned, with peeling paint work and rotting wood.

Doors on rusty hinges.

Windows without panes.

"Abandoned".

A word that lends itself to that which is sentient, something that lives, breathes and feels.

Something with self awareness enough to know that they've been left behind.

Do houses dream?

Do they yearn?

The answer is a resounding yes, on both counts.

Have you ever wondered; what if houses could talk?

What secrets would we tell?

What memories do the liminal spaces of our empty hallways hold?

Does the echo of laughter once heard within our walls linger, a song only we can hear?

When humans talk about being haunted by memories, they forget that us houses are haunted in just the same way.

When the late afternoon sun hits just right and pours in through my front windows that lack any curtains or glass, evidence of activity can be observed.

Dust floating on air, a fly buzzing, a clock ticking faintly in the next room, the batteries retaining life.

Still, the rooms are mostly empty.

Months ago when the humans left after a decade and a half here, they didn't really care enough about some of the possessions they had accumulated and once believed so important, to take them along.

A bitter reminder of how fleeting everything in this life is.

Even in the life of a house.

The sofa, once so coveted by the man who lived here - because his next door neighbor had one just like it and they'd been locked in a battle of one upmanship for as far back as either could remember - was left behind without a second thought.

Sad and strange how humans can toss something they once loved, aside at a later date.

(Including each other.)

Some rooms are more upsetting, because they're only half empty.

As though someone left in the middle of something and there is the promise of a return.

It's false hope.

They're not coming back.

Not now, not ever.

The youngest daughter's bedroom, an ode to teenage girlhood is a time capsule. With its lavender colored walls and sun bleached posters of pop stars, the edges curling, folding, slowly gving up.

Waiting for nothing but time to claim and age them more.

Make-up was left in the glare of the sun on the vanity dresser by the door.

Eyeshadows with names like "Tropical Night" and "90s glitter" have faded.

A clock has been ticking tirelessly throughout the house since they left.

Eventually it will wind down and cease.

Wherever its hands land, it will be that time forever after.

This is no longer a home, but a tomb.

A place of warm memories that leave me cold and shadows that steadily lengthen then blanket me in night.

A derelict shrine dedicated to the glory of what once was.

I am become living death.

fiction.

... or is it?

Inspired by how abandoned houses and empty rooms have always made me both uncomfortable and sad. Something about them haunts me. I've always wanted to write from the point of view of one.
Also inspired by this house that I've loved since I was a child and is currently sadly in decay. I was writing as this house!

The last line is inspired by "I am become Death"; part of a famous quotation from the Bhagavad Gita. J. Robert Oppenheimer is popularly known to have cited the passage after witnessing the Trinity nuclear test.

It's been a long time since I made icons of my favourite actress, Emily Blunt and I was ready to take on the themes at [community profile] celebrity20in20 this time. Making it just in the nick of time! The favourite role icon is from my favourite movie ever: Wild Target featuring Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint and Bill Nighy. It's such a fun movie! The fantasy one is from a Vogue photoshoot of hers for the Mary Poppins sequel.

Wow, that's a lot of icons I made for The Untamed after a long time. It was fun and challenging! We had a provided textures round at [community profile] tvmovie20in20 .  Seriously, an only-texture themed round was kind of hard but I also had fun trying to use them in a variety of ways. You can get all the individual textures from the challenge post here.

Challenge #2

Tunnel of Love
Journaling: The romance of summer! What do you love? Write about anything you feel sentimental about or that gets your heart pumping.
Creative: Write a love poem to anyone or anything you like

Well, I'm an August bank holiday baby (even if Mum says I shouldn't say that since I wasn't technically born on the bank holiday, but eh, close enough), so I always had my birthday in the summer holidays rather than having to spend it at school (which I later found out I would have had to have done had I gone to school in Scotland rather than England, where the holiday dates are different).

But what I would mostly say for summer memories is spending time with family (bit of context for anyone who hasn't known me very long or doesn't know me at all, my family is pretty much scattered across the UK) so the summer holiday was always the chance to spend time with people I didn't see enough of.
